IPA 44 Club: the power of side hustles

How side projects strengthen your career

Side hustles have become a defining feature in adland. From passion projects to microventures to fullblown business ideas, more people in advertising are building something of their own alongside their day job. But what does that mean for creativity, career development, and wellbeing?

In this 44 Club session, we’ve got four experts in side hustles exploring the highs and lows of having a side hustle. They have all used their spare time to sharpen their creative instincts, expand their skillsets, build confidence and bring fresh thinking back into their agency roles. We’ll look at how side projects can spark curiosity, create new connections - and sometimes lead to a new career.

They’ll also dig into the watchouts: how to set boundaries, avoid burnout, stay transparent with your employer and protect your mental health when what was your passion project starts to behave like a second job.

Whether you’re at the stage of cultivating an idea, already deep into your 5–9, or simply curious about how side hustles shape better creatives, join us for an open conversation about balance, ambition and what happens when you give your creativity more than one outlet.
